I like the Suzuki QChord for many reasons. This is the evolution of the infamous and weird Omnichord. But does it do the shoegaze thing? I thought this thing was pretty cool. Out of the box the settings are horrible, but with tweaking you can create some interesting sounds. I have no prior experience with the instrument enjoy, comment, subscribe.
You will be making music with the exciting QChord right from the start even if you've never played an instrument before! Choose from over 100 different sounds such as piano, guitar or flute to accompany your singing or to play your favorite melodies. The QChord replaced the Omnichord. And, though it is similar it has a much improved sound system and many added features. Generally, the Omnichord or QChord can be thought of as an ELECTRONIC AUTOHARP, CHROMAHARP or even as some people refer to it as an ELECTRONIC CHORDED ZITHER. However, it is even MORE! While an autoharp is limited to only 12, 15 or 21 chords which include Major, Minor and Seventh in as many as seven Keys, the QChord can also play Minor Sevenths, Major Sevenths, Diminished and Augmented Chords in all 12 Keys. It is far easier to play than the Autoharp, has no strings to break or go out of tune and is more versatile with 100 different sounds, built-in rhythm accompaniments and more.
This video has nothing to do with airplanes or helicopters, just a little more history. Digital guitars, synthesizers, and the new Q-Chord, this time. It plays 84 different chord combinations with the touch of a finger on a flat, textured "strumplate" and more with extra plug in cards. Fully equipped with standard electronic keyboard features and 10 different rhythm styles. The instrument is divided up into three sections; a touch sensitive 'strum plate', a rhythm section, and chord button section. Each of these areas can be used independently or combined. There are many wonderful and varied sounds obtainable from the strum plate and the combination of different musical sounds achievable is both impressive and unusual! When plugged into your stereo or amp, you will not believe the high quality sound. Because the Q Chord takes the hard work out of playing, it makes the art of making music more fun and therefore allows more creativity with regard to composing music. As a composition tool therefore, the Q Chord is unmatched with regard to its versatility and portability. There are many famous artists who use the Q Chord (or old Omnichord) such as Jarvis Cocker, Robbie Williams, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Brian Eno, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr and Bjork to name but a few! The pop group 'The High Fidelity' has used the 'quirky' sounds of the Q Chord to good effect and plays the instrument a lot in their recordings. They also share their enthusiasm for the instrument with Radio Ones John Peel. When Sean Dickson (The High Fidelity) was asked on Radio One "What's it like to play, is it easy?" Sean said "Oh, it's very easy, anyone can come up with something in about half an hour. It's not like any other instrument". Brian Eno maintains "I couldn't do without it! • Composition -the ideal composing instrument. • Teaching - an excellent educational instrument. • Therapy - now used in specialist Therapy Centers. • Reduce stress - great for reducing stress levels for everyone! • Suitable for many outlets/groups -Churches, Playgroups, retirement centers etc. • Ideal for all the family to use. • A good alternative (to guitar or keyboard) for the club performer! There are a number of accessories available for the Q Chord, the most notable of which are the song cartridges. These plug into the instrument and the karaoke effect makes it possible to play as well as sing along to pop favorites, country and western, religious, children's favorites, party hits etc. Great fun for all the family to join in! The Q Chord is easily connected to a speaker, for increasing volume to larger audiences, if required. The MIDI facilities also allow connection to other instruments or to a computer if needed. Short demo of Suzuki Omnichord Qchord using ez play mode built in sounds (guitar) and additional GM synth and choir sounds
My lovely Appalachian autoharp was destroyed by a local company during restringing, so I since have moved on to the Suzuki QChord. Unfortunately the QChord was originally marketed towards absolute beginners (or for healthcare reasons), and most demos have been about sticking in cartridges and tapping along. However, I believe the QChord is much more suitable for beginner and intermediate musicians, especially if you are interested in learning an instrument but have limited time to commit. If you can type, then you can easily start learning to play songs from readily-available music books! I have shown several people (non-musicians), how to play their first simple song in under 10 minutes. In this video, I will show how to turn off the rhythm so the QChord only plays what you play, what to look for when finding music book resources, and my list of travel accessories. (I am not promoting any brand of accessories. These are ones I bought with portability and flexibility in mind.)

Feb. VII . A Man WIth A Harp; . 2022, February. . I like to experiment with the kinda 80-ies sounds of the Qchord / Omnichord, to create a soundscape, where the sonic experience is a feeling rather than a song. This video is a demo to show that the Q Chord is capable of playing rock. It would have been better if I actually could sing. My apologies to the Animals and to my mother who tried to raise me right but something has gone horribly wrong.
Suzuki QChord using Rhythm Styles QCR-1 cartridge and Rat guitar pedal. I'm just starting to play with my QChord and guitar pedals. I like how rock and roll the Rat pedal makes the QChord sound.
OK so here’s my very first attempt at trying to fit my recently acquired “Suzuki QChord” into a folky setting. “About time too” I hear some say, as I’ve had this electronic whizz-box nearly a week already. For those unfamiliar with it, the QChord is to some degree like an electronic Autoharp, plus a Chord organ, in that it has an array of chord-buttons and a versatile strum effect. There are no strings, just electronics. It’s extremely easy to play (and I guess especially easy to play badly....) The QChord device (imho) is ideal for “wannabe” musicians i.e. those people who would really love to play an instrument, but have never managed to become proficient at any. It especially suits people who like to sing, as like an Autoharp, its only role is to accompany. So, as long as you know a song’s chord-sequence and you press the right chord-buttons in the right order, then you can be up up and away, seemingly “playing” accompaniments within just minutes of your very first strum. This home-recording has a simple freestyle folkie accompaniment to an Irish traditional song that I got from a Mary O’Hara album. The song’s a bit sad, but then lots of the best songs are, aren’t they… Techy info, for QChorders: • I am using Rhythm “Waltz” but without drums. • Strumplate is set to “FLUTE”, using high Sustain, high Reverb and no Vibrato. With Flute voice set an Octave down. • I have Auto-Chord OFF and Chord-Plus ON, Bass ON for all of the song. • Importantly, I have Chord-Hold ON and also Manual Chord ON meaning that the built-in rhythm is completely absent. (Some of the QChord’s built-in rhythms are pretty cheesy, to be honest… but, for this song, IO just wanted sustained chords) • I’ve transposed down -2 semitones (half-steps) so, although I play the song in D Minor, it comes out as C Minor…. Hope that’s all useful to any budding QChorders who may be reading this. Further guidance is all in the Suzuki QChord User Guide…! I'm an experienced musician, with a long and varied background in Brass, Voice, Acoustic Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin/Mandola, Accordion, Keyboards etc., so it was extremely easy for me to get started with the QChord. I am lucky enough to able to find the chords of just about any song, totally by ear – A useful skill to develop if you want to become a proficient QChorder. Also, if you’re lucky enough (like me) to play a piano-accordion using “Stradella” (standard) bass-button system then it makes the QChord chord-button layout totally second nature, with “magic” chords 1, 4 & 5 always adjacent to one another, irrespective of the key. I really hope you enjoy this, my very first attempt at recording and sharing a QChord accompaniment. Let me know what you think in Comments and do feel free to share.

I bought a broken Qchord on facebook marketplace. It was listed a few months ago at a fair price however it was not in my budget at the time. Unfortunately Sydney Australia was hit by torrential rain and a lot of areas flooded (my house included). The seller noticed afterwards that the Qchord had stopped working and came to the conclusion it was the rain. I ended up buying the Qchord from her for parts knowing there was no guarantee I could get it working. I decided to do a facebook livestream of the repair using my phone. Afterwards I edited it into a youtube video in hopes that it may be of benefit to anyone repairing a Qchord. It was a lucky purchase and I am already having a great time playing it! Thank you to Darren from Omnichord Heaven for giving advice and resources on my specific model of the Qchord. 🤍tarasmusicchannel.bandcamp.com 🤍facebook.com/TarasMusicChannel 🤍instagram.com/TarasMusicChannel
