These Carnatic Songs are spiritual enough to sooth and to entertain the listeners. Carnatic Songs are considered one of the oldest systems of music in the world. This is mainly due to the contributions of such inspired artist like Papanasam Sivan. Papanasam Sivan was born in Polagam Ramaiah. Sri Ramayya, popularly known as Papanasam Sivan was born on 26th September, 1890 at Polakom, a Village in Tanjore District, as the second son of Ramamritha Iyer and Yogmbal. Sri Papanasam Sivan is one of the greatest composers of all times. It was more divine than any other composition which has made his compositions really great. The first ever song of Sri Papanasam Sivan ‘Unnai Thuthikka Arul Tha’ in the raga Kundala Varali was a spontaneous expression of his great Bhakthi. This was sung during the rathotsvam at the Thyagaraja Temple, Thiruvoor. From then on Sri Sivan never looked back. Sri Papanasam Sivan has composed nearly 2000 songs which include songs which he composed for the many films. Fifty of these are in Sanskrit and the rest in Tamil. “Best Carnatic Vocal Songs or Papanasam Sivan – A melody personified” this compilation album is packed with such lovely yet mystical Carnatic Classical Songs of Sri Papanasam Sivan. This collection overall is a worthy listen.

It gives us so much, from rejuvenating our spirits and cleansing our mind, to a sense of physical well being and a definite spiritual direction if we choose. Sometime during our life, we need to prostrate before this power. We attempt here to share all that it has given us- Composers, ragas, thoughts on puranas. We also try to look at what we should do, individually and collectively, to ensure that its purity and profound beauty are passed on to the generation next. Smt.Nithyashree Mahadevan's Papanasam Sivan Krithis. Papanasam Ramayya Sivan (26 September 1890 – 1 October 1973) was a composer of Carnatic music and a singer. Papanasam Sivan's early years were spent in the Travancore area of Kerala where the kings patronised fine arts. He was born at Polagam village in the district of Thanjavur, which was home to the musical trinity of Carnatic music. His given name was Ramaiya. Papanasam Sivan was most interested in the devotional aspect of music. He preferred to sing devotional songs and encouraged other singers take part in sessions of devotional music with him. Papanasam Sivan was a regular performer in the main temple festivals in South India with his devotional songs. Later in 1962, Papanasam Sivan received the President Award, and in 1969 he received the Sangeetha Kalasikhamani Award bestowed on him by "The Indian Fine Arts Society, Chennai". He was conferred the Sangita Kalanidhi in 1971. He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1970. He was also a film score composer in Kannada cinema as well as Tamil cinema in the 1930s and 1940s. Sivan was also known as Tamil Thyagaraja. Using Classical South Indian as a base, Sivan created compositions popularised by M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and M. S. Subbulakshmi. In 1962, he was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship conferred by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama. Nithya Sree Mhadevan is a classical phenomenon of a stunning stature, shining like a beacon among the younger generation Carnatic vocalists. She has the blood of the century’s great music maestros coursing through her veins – the mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer, her maternal grandfather and the living legend in Carnatic vocal music Dr.D.K.Pattammal, her paternal grandmother. Although the finer nuances were taught by her grandmother, it is remarkable that Nithyasree has carved out a distinct style for herself and emerged as a serious artiste. Gifted with pleasing voice that moves with liquid smoothness over three octaves, Nithyasree maintains perfect command over intricate and enticing rhythm patterns in her rendition of Swaras. Nithyasree’s sincerity and dedication to the art, her emotive rendering of the Krithis and the passion and fervor with which she performs on the stage are certainly bound to mold her into an artist of the highest caliber.
