The line 'when you are rich no one is really your friend' could work really well with the Poirot's explanation from 'Murder not he Orient Express' that he sees what should not be there and a line from the book of 'why do you mind so much?' Meaning that what she said is probably true but that there is a good chance that she may also be telling herself that as well as M. Poirot. All I'll otherwise say for those who don't know the story but have continued to read this comment is this:
Linnet Ridgeway is not a spiteful or malicious person. Life has been kind to her and she in turn has genuinely tried to be kind to other people. But she's used to getting her way. Through her beauty, her brains, her charm or her wealth, she's always been able to get what she wants.....even if there's a chance that it might come at the cost of someone else's peace or happiness.
